Hirshberg, 61, runs the world’s largest producer of organic yoghurt. The New Hampshire company grew out of his work as director of the New Alchemy Institute, a non-profit research centre in Massachusetts specialising in organic farming. It started selling organic yoghurt produced by just seven cows. But a later deal with French yoghurt giant Danone, provided US$100 million investment in exchange for a 40 per cent stake. Hirshberg has called for businesses to take into consideration the environment and health, as well as finance.
