Karen Armstrong flies the flag for The Golden Rule, the ubiquitous concept of compassion that ties all the world’s belief systems together, as an answer to global problems. Armstrong believes that religions should unite to promote a universal behaviour shift towards the principles of altruism and compassion, and in 2008 she created the Charter for Compassion to promote this global movement.

It has received the backing of key religious leaders like the Dalai Lama as well as prominent social figures like Richard Branson and Muna AbuSulayman. Armstrong has written over 20 books on comparative religions, highlighting the similarities between the world’s major belief systems and promoting interfaith development.
