Sudanese-born Ibrahim is the founder of telecoms company Celtel. After selling Celtel in 2005 for US$3.5 billion, he set up the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to encourage better governance in Africa. He has pledged to give half his wealth to charity by joining The Giving Pledge and has lent support to the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, a UN initiative spreading broadband services to unconnected people.
