Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding Bangladesh’s Grameen Bank, which allows underprivileged entrepreneurs access to credit. The creator and pioneer of microcredit, Yunus has received numerous prestigious awards for his work in aiding economic and social development. He regards credit as a vital human right, and has given millions of people access to the banking system. He also serves on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation.
