Elected the first female president of Ireland in 1990, Mary Robinson’s CV shows the career of a woman relentlessly dedicated to creating a better world. She worked as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 1997-2002 and is now UN secretary-general’s special envoy on Climate Change as well as president of the Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice, which aims to secure justice for those vulnerable people on whom the impacts of climate change are usually forgotten.

Robinson, 71, sits alongside the world’s foremost peacemakers and social revolutionaries in The Elders – a group established by Nelson Mandela that works to achieve global peace and human rights.
