A few small changes to your everyday life can help reduce your environmental impact – here are 10 cheeky cheats for getting greener.
Put your phone in aeroplane mode to help it charge it faster
Use a clothesline to dry clothes but if you must use a dryer, put a dry towel in with each load to save energy.
Empty two-litre plastic bottles make great plant pots. Cut a hole in one side, fill with soil and plant. Several can be strung up inside a window to create your own vertical garden.
Use old wooden pallets to build a compost bin for your potato peelings and tea bags.
No need to buy toxic paints or varnish – rubbing a walnut across lightly chipped wood furniture will repair the damage.
Put a brick in the cistern of your toilet to save up to an impressive 80per cent water per flush.
Save ink toner by switching the colour to dark blue and use Garamond typeface, which uses less ink.
Sharpen and extend the life of razors by running them across a pair of jeans
Save on plastic and keep food fresh longer – use those clips from the ends of clothes hangers as fasteners to keep food packaging sealed.
Use bubble wrap to insulate windows – mist windows with water and apply bubble wrap with bubble side facing the pane.
