Tata Motors Ltd has become the most recent large company to join the RE100 initiative, following a pledge to source all of its power from renewable energy sources.
The company did not set an exact deadline for meeting the goal, but it confirmed plans to make as much use of renewable energy as possible across all its operations.
Tata Motors currently sources eight per cent of power from renewable sources, and plans to push this to 100 per cent through several open access agreements.
“Our climate change policy aims to maximize the use of renewable energy in our manufacturing operations,” said chief sustainability officer of Tata Motors Limited, Arvind Bodhankar. “Doing so will not only reduce our carbon emissions, but also lead to long-term financial savings.”
