The shores of the Mediterranean see thousands of refugees every day who arrive on small boats, evidence for which is seen everywhere in massive piles of discarded life vests.
Most of the arrivals are fleeing from Syria and Afghanistan in search of safety, economic stability, and a better life.
Globally, one in every 122 humans is now either a refugee, internally displaced, or seeking asylum. If this were the population of a country, it would be the world’s 24th biggest. The year of 2015 has seen the largest crisis the world has ever seen in terms of displacement.
