Former Brazilian senator and presidential candidate, Marina Silva is still politically active and campaigning ardently to preserve the Amazon rainforest where she grew up. Silva was the youngest candidate and first rubber tapper ever elected to Brazil’s parliament.

Later as environment minister, she reserved millions of hectares of land for indigenous communities and saw deforestation decline by 75 per cent. Now out of office, Silva continues to promote natural resource conservation and international co-operation for sustainable development.
