Arundhati Roy is one of India’s leading authors and political commentators. She is best known internationally for her debut novel The God of Small Things, which won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1997 and became the bestselling book of all time by an Indian author.

Within India, however, Roy is also an outspoken defender of human rights and environmental causes. Her nonfiction writings include condemnations of India’s social caste system and occupation of Kashmir, among other social justice issues.
